Think positive

Post by Admin on Thu Nov 15, 2007 11:53 pm

hi normoredoc,
we can understand your problem but let's see it in another way.
why u doubt that u will not be selected, every student think this only and get depressed . this produces a lot of negative energy. GOD has planned good for ourself , so have faith in him.

remember to be positive and just focus what u r going to do in the next 2 months.

just focus on aipgme and believe urself

visit our set target section, it will help u a lot

first of all congrats for starting this great site.

i have a similar problem. got 54% in may aiims but nov aiims went very bad and am struggling to be in 50% list, forget about improving my score. i had thought that after aiims , i will start preparing 4 pgi with full vigour, but am not doin enough due to low moral. i got 400 odd rank in june pgi. please advice as to what shud i read beside chowdhary past papers in the comin 20 days to improve my rank...

Post by Admin on Fri Nov 16, 2007 1:35 am

Thanks spaw12345

scoring above 50% in aiims itself is an acheviement and nov aiims was tough for all, so no need to worry. every exam has its own style and pattern.

at this moment if u r thinking for pgi ,that itself means that u can crack it

Doctor's publication pgi papers can also help u a lot , they have good explanations BUT we advice u to revise ur old stuff rather than studying new.

u can read oncology from harrison as these days about 50 questions r asked from them. its only 150 pages long

do tel us if still something bothering u

thanx 4 a prompt reply!!!

i will surely read those 150 pages of oncology. please advice what to read in molecular biology and immunology as pgi has lots of questions 4om it. also i m reading chowdhary past papers by doctors publications but many answers seem to differ with arora publishers individual books and amit ashish med and surgery books. shud i rely entirely on pgi book. cos its diff to cross check every question 40m book. another query, how many answers shud we mark. in june pgi, i marked very less options to be on safer side but my rank went to 400, what do u suggest

About pharmacolgy

Post by Admin on Fri Nov 16, 2007 4:14 pm

For pharmacolgy we feel every year out of approx 25-30 questions , 10 are pure basic concept based which can be done from kdt easily.
from the remaining 15-20 questions , 10-13 questions r based on specific old drugs which can also be done from kdt and guides.

now the remaining 7-10 questions are on new drugs. for this we recommend ( as time remaining is less ) SEED-clinical pharmacology by dr.prem niyati. its a handy/small book and covers most of the new drugs.

for those who don't have this book we r going to start a special pharmacology section for new drugs and updates.
Smile
so don't worry and keep progressing

About aaa/salgulan

Post by Admin on Fri Nov 16, 2007 11:19 pm

Dear members,

although AAA and Salgulan contains all questions but they r very old ('80s) and not of the present pattern.
so a little bit waste of time and going away from the present pattern.

Instead you can solve EXPLORER series of adtiya medical publication which contain topic wise mcq's.

special features of this series is that it has filtered all the old questions and also mcqs are arranged exam wise (of course topic wise also)

so have a look

Re: calm down

Post by mission_PG on Sat Nov 17, 2007 1:52 am

Hey guys i'm stuck in fix.... i have harrison 15th ed which i bought when it came out in 2003. Now most of the references that i find are from 16th ed. Though going through the index solves most of the problem but still i feel a little worried for any major differences in the two eds.
should i check some topics from the new ed or continue most from the 15th only....
Also is the latest CMDT of any use in staying in touch with the latest(nearely so).

About harrison

Post by Admin on Sat Nov 17, 2007 1:59 am

U really don't have to worry about this.

if u have studied 15th edition stick with it. the 16th edition has mainly changes in aids, bioterrisom section. and very minute changes which we don't think r neccessary for aipgme. they focus mainly on basics

and frankly speaking NO NEED for cmdt at this stage. we r going to start a special pharmacology section for new drugs. so don't worry

as time is less , don't get confused about things. just keep studying Smile

For anatomy
1) if u have read bdc, then revise it
2) if only across , then stick to it only

for patho
study first seven chapter from robbin's COMPANION

for micro
revise rachna chaurasia or study review of microbiolgy by PEEPEE publication

hi @sana...
what is done is done.. now it can't be undone.. so dont worry sana .. u have lost nothing .. so look up and ahead dont worry .. just relax and look forward...
as u said ur confident about mk & ag .. its a nice thing.... but do stay in focus... and yes u can start revising other books and continue with mk & ag afterwards.... u should make a schedule i.e work out/chalkout a plan for subjects like when and how much time u will give to each subject... as it will make things more systematic... bcoz now is the time to take control of things and not let things take control of u !!

hi @prateek...
dont worry sometime or the other everyone goes through a lean phase.... the faster u overcome the better...
try a few things... to begin with...

1. make small goals for ur ongoing study and try to accomplish it
2. cutting down on typical time wasters tv , net , etc.. but give ur self time to refresh and renergise...
3 follow healthy habits .. sleep well and eat well and above all pray well
4 when u study study n when u play play.. dont mix and match things..
5 keep distractions away when u study...
6 dream of ur goals... often !!!
