ATHEROSCLEROSIS

Post by dpkmenon on Mon Dec 17, 2007 7:57 am

THE MOST ACCEPTED THEORY OF ATHEROSCLEROSIS FORMATION IS
1)LIPID INFILTRATION IN2 INTIMA
2)ENDOTHELIAL INJURY
3)SMOKING
4)HYPERLIPIDEMIA

well, dats d ansr gvn in the buk i got, bt cudnt find ne ref. shouldnt it b inltration of intima with lipid wich is the constant step? besides, isnt endothelial injury a sequelae of lipid accumulatn , macrophage ingestion and release of cytokines??

endothelail injury is indeed the first and most imp step that eventually leads to lipid accumulation, and cytokine release etc..

Reference- CMDT2004 pg 435

ATHEROSCLEROSIS is a generalised response of artery wall to injury.
the endothelial damage leads to smooth muscle migration into the intima and proliferation.
finally there is extracellular lipid deposition.

answer is 2
